  1. I just viewd the Today Show Segment and know this family's struggle all too well. On December 26, 2007 at about 6:00 in the evening my then 6 year old daughter and I found my then 11 year old son, Xavier, hanging from a doorknob. I performed CPR until EMS arrived. To make a long story short, my son survived with significant brain injury. He was in a coma for a month, in a rehab facility for 5 months, and has been in and out of the hospital for the past 10 months. I feel so blessed that my boy is still here for us to "love on". But as we are now settling into our new normal, I want to get the word out on this secret deadly game. I knew nothing about this game before 12/26/07. I don't want another parent in my community to find out the way I did. Thank you for all those parents who are strong enough to go out there and inform other parents, after losing or nearly losing their precious child to this hideous thing. Dana

  2. Dana - would it be alright with you for Xavier to be added to the Victim's database? One of the purposes of the database is to prove how prevalent this is and Xavier's story is important.

Choking Game Victim's Database RegistryThank you for sharing your son with the world.
And you thoughts and prayers are with your families strength in discovering your new normal with Xavier.

  4. Hello Mr Tork,
I am so very sorry to hear about the loss of your beautiful son, my prayers are with you and your family.

My brother's son did this very same "game" several years ago, and almost died; fortunately he didn't. He was with friends (if you can call them that?) and they managed to get him down from where he was hanging (they nearly didn't because of his size) and he hung himself from his ceiling fixture which made it harder for those at the party to get to him. He is not well because of this, he needs medical and psychiatric care to this day... he was about 18 when he did this, he is 23 now; when my brother told me, I cautioned him to get help before his son / my nephew went past the point of no return.
I hope people everywhere realize that this is happening everywhere, in every life style. There is no one particular kind of child more prone to it than the next, it can happen to anyone! Again, my sympathy goes out to you and your family. God bless you. Sally
